Huntington takes the crown victory over Westfall

HUNTINGTON, Ohio (WOUB) — The Huntington Huntsmen (4-3) hosted the Westfall Mustangs (5-2) in a homecoming matchup. The Huntsmen were able to take the 34-21 victory, playing strongly on each side of the ball.
Huntington started with the ball in the beginning but didn’t make much happen as they got stopped shortly after, ending their first drive at their own 47-yard line. Westfall, on the other hand, had some magic with their first drive. They were able to open their drives with a touchdown. This was the longest drive of the game with a total of 75 yards. Running back Eli Wright scored the opening touchdown for 13 yards rushing.
Next drive, the Huntsmen didn’t take long to get up on the board with a 3-yard touchdown run from RB Isaac Taylor, and going for a 2-point conversion but was no good to bring the score to 6-7 Westfall.
It was back and forth until a few drives later when the Mustangs would make it to the red zone but is stopped by the Huntsmen defense. Only two drives later; the Mustangs would cause the first, but not the last interception of the game. Huntington didn’t get much out of the interception play though.
Westfall would have their turn with the interceptions as Quinn Eberly was able to pick it off from Huntington quarterback, but once he got the ball back, he threw his own interception to Huntsman Frankie Hirsch.
Towards the end of third quarter with a lot of back and forth play Huntington was able to take the lead with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Taylor again. The Huntsmen had three attempts at a 2-point conversion but could not succeed on any of the attempts. During this drive Taylor carried the ball for a total of 21 yards.
Huntington was able to accomplish another interception and with their new drive they were able to add eight points by Taylor to the board with a 27-yard rushing touchdown, now bringing the score 20-7 Huntington.
The Mustangs responded with a touchdown of their own, now making the score 20-14 at the start of the last quarter. Westfall then tries an onside kick, and they are able to recover it. This allows them to march down to the endzone for another touchdown from quarterback Eberly to take the lead again, now being 20-21 Westfall.
The Huntsmen were able to take a 70-yard drive to the house for another touchdown. Jackson McNeal takes it for a 33-yard passing touchdown, but a 2-point conversion is no good. This gives them the lead again. Hirsch was able to complete a pick 6 for 60 yards with the 2-point conversion being good.
With one more interception left in the Huntsmen, they are able to take the ball back for a final time to be able to end the game with a 34-21 final against the Westfall Mustangs.
Westfall looks to gain their next conference win as they go on to face the Piketon Redstreaks (5-3) while Huntington looks to keep their conference winning streak alive against the Adena Warriors (3-4).
