Grove City Christian clinches title share over Fisher Catholic

GROVE CITY, Ohio (WOUB) — Grove City Christian cruised to its fifth conference win and a share of the MSL-Cardinal title with an opportunity to claim it outright next week.
The Eagles smothered the Irish’s run game, forcing a fumble on the opening drive. Grove City Christian would move the ball down the field thanks to a screen pass to WR Josiah Harmeyer, where Harmeyer would juke out multiple defenders and move down the field. QB Douglas Housley would find Josh Gibson on a 19-yard completion in the end zone to put the Eagles up 7-0.
Fisher Catholic would get no favors after Grove City Christian’s kickoff would start the Irish on their own 7-yard line. The Irish would go three-and-out and punt it back to the Eagles, who would find Harmeyer in the end zone on top of a defender for another score.
The Irish would stall out once again and fail to convert on fourth down, giving Grove City Christian the ball back with seven minutes left in the second quarter.
Gio Cotton established the run game for the Eagles with a major carry for 20 yards before Housley completed his third touchdown of the half, finding Tyden Tinlin for 23 yards to the house to put Grove City Christian up 21-0 with four minutes remaining in the half.
Fisher Catholic would be shut down once again gaining just 4 yards on the drive and forced to punt with 2 minutes remaining in the half. Grove City would continue its dominant half with Douglas Housley connecting for a fourth time with a fourth receiver in the end zone; this time Bennett Cook found the football for the Eagles.
The Irish would be stunted before the halftime break and would return to the locker room down 28.
Grove City Christian would not let up and would come out of the break hungry. The Eagles would find John Gibson again on a screen pass that Gibson would take 27 yards to the house. The final nail in the coffin for Fisher Catholic was a Cotton rushing touchdown from 10 yards out to make it 41-0.
The running clock would run this game out and Grove City Christian would clinch back-to-back MSL-Cardinal title. Douglas Housley would finish with 217 yards on 15 completions and five passing touchdowns, while Fisher Catholic would only muster up 36 total offensive yards. Fisher Catholic will look out of conference next week going to Manchester. Grove City Christian will host Fairfield Christian with an opportunity to win the MSL Cardinal outright.
