Men’s Basketball Tallies Another Win
< < Back to ?p=3598The Ohio Men’s Basketball team is on a roll, and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
In Sunday's game, the Bobcats dominated the Akron Zips, the number one team Mid-American Conference.
Winning by a final score of 85-61, the Bobcats have recorded over 20 wins this season, and have a 10-4 record in the MAC.
Ohio’s Head Coach John Groce attributes the team’s success to the players and the fans as well.
"I'm proud of our guys for the toughness that they played with and the together-ness that they played with. We love playing here. I can't thank the students enough, the community enough for the way they supported this team this year,” Groce said.
As always, the O-Zone cheered on the green and white in the Convocation Center Sunday.
Students continue to show their excitement about the team’s success, and hope the team's wins carry over into the post-season.
“This season, we’ve seen D.J. Cooper really develop and grow up, and Ivo Baltic absolutely destroy in the center. I would expect nothing more than the Bobcats to win the MAC Conference and advance to the NCAA tournament,” O-Zone member Andrew Mlynaraski said.
The last time Ohio made any kind of a run in the NCAA tournament was in 2010.
Students went crazy on Court Street when the number 14 seed Bobcats defeated the number 3 seed Georgetown, 97-83 in a first-round game.
Fans want the men’s basketball team to bring that kind of excitement back to Athens.
“I couldn’t be more excited the Bobcats are doing incredible this year, we started off this season 13-1, which is unbelievable,” Mlynaraski said.
The Bobcats will wrap up their regular season with two road games.
They face a tough conference opponent in Kent State University, and then travel to rival Miami University.
If Ohio can end their season on a strong note and pick up some wins in their conference tournament, the Bobcats will be a team to keep in mind when filling out brackets.
