Men’s Basketball: Groce Earns Bonuses From Sweet 16 Run
< < Back to mens-basketball-groce-earns-bonuses-sweet-16-runThe Ohio Bobcats' run to the Sweet 16 earned them national prominence, a huge lift in excitement from fans, and for head coach John Groce, a pay raise from bonuses built into his contract.
According to the USA Today, Groce earned $55,000 from the Bobcats postseason run.
Groce made $5,000 for a winning record in regular-season conference play and an additional $10,000 for winning the MAC Tournament title.
The Bobcats' head man gained $20,000 for Ohio's wins over Michigan and South Florida ($10,000 for each win), and an additional $20,000 for making the round of 16.
The bonuses raise Groce's salary for this year from a $250,000 annual base salary to $305,000.
Another $10,000 would have been tacked on if Ohio would have beaten UNC, and Groce could have earned $10,000 for any other win after that in the NCAA Tournament.
A Final Four appearance would have given Groce a $40,000 pay raise, and an NCAA title is worth $60,000.
