Ohio basketball lost a big recruit on Tuesday when Pickerington Central star Caris LeVert declared, “I just re-opened my recruitment,” on his Twitter account.

Jerry Francis, the head coach at Pickerington Central, said LeVert made the decision because he “wanted to put himself in a different place academically.”

Francis also said that they wish John Groce the best at Illinois, but his departure from Ohio had nothing to do with LeVert’s decision to decommit.

LeVert is ranked as a top ten Ohio prospect by ESPN and had signed a letter of intent with Ohio, but now he is back on the market.

Francis declined to comment on which school LeVert would sign with now, although there is speculation that Illinois and Ohio State are among the top contenders for him.

LeVert led Pickerington Central to a state championship this past season, scoring 20 points in the championship game. LeVert was also named the most outstanding player on the 2012 Associated Press Division I All-Tournament Team.

LeVert’s decommitment leaves Ohio with two open scholarship for the 2012-2013 basketball season.
