ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Humane Society is taking orders for its annual fall mum sale, with proceeds funding animal welfare programs across the county.

The hardy chrysanthemums come from Norris Greenhouse in Meigs County; with 8″ pots of varieties like yellow, red, orange, and purple mums available for $12 and 12″ pots of varieties such as Candy Corn, Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus and Traces of Fall available for $22.

Orders are due online by Sept. 3. and can be placed online at this link. Pickup runs 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Athens City Pool parking lot.

The sale supports several ACHS services. Its foster program places shelter animals in temporary homes, where they get socialization and care while they wait for adoption. The society also holds biweekly adoption events, keeps online adoption listings and conducts outreach to connect animals with permanent homes.

ACHS employs a humane agent who investigates reports of animal neglect and abuse countywide and helps rescue and rehabilitate animals in distress. A low-cost spay and neuter clinic serves qualifying low-income residents, and the group’s Trap-Neuter-Return program works with volunteers to manage feral and community cat populations and reduce the number of unhomed kittens.
