Waterford falls short against Nelsonville-York

WATERFORD, Ohio (WOUB) — The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (5-0) traveled to the Waterford Wildcats (3-2) for a rematch. The Buckeyes will come out of this slow-game victory, 18-12.
The game started with Waterford having the ball first and going 3-and-out with Nelsonville’s defense working hard. The Buckeyes were able to make some magic happen for a minute. Cam Sullivan was able to get his team down the field with the help of Weston Wheatley and Walker Stone but was cut short by a Wildcat group.
There was a point in time that there were four back-to-back flags for both teams; this was a Waterford drive. It wasn’t until late in the first quarter that either team would get on the ball. NY punts the ball but is able to recover it because of Wheatley. This would then get the Buckeyes on the board first thanks to a Sullivan pass to Wheatley. The point-after would be no good.
The Wildcats would try to come back in the second quarter but would not be able to punch the ball into the end zone. Nelsonville-York would then get another chance to take possession. With less than a minute left of the first half, Sullivan was able to punch his way into the end zone. This gives the Buckeyes a 12-0 lead at halftime.
Going into the third, Waterford was able to make some magic happen. An interception by Brandy Pottmeyer was able to change the game’s momentum for the Wildcats. But this would be shortly cut off by a touchdown from Sullivan again to get into the end zone to up NY’s score.
Finally, the Wildcats are able to get on the board themselves with a rushing touchdown. Waterford tries to go for the two-point conversion, but it is no good. This is able to cut down the lead for the Buckeyes: 18-6.
Nelsonville-York would go on to hold Waterford and take the win, 18-12. Waterford will face the Eastern Eagles, while Nelsonville-York will host the Meigs Marauders.
