CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WOUB) – For the first time this season, the cool air blew across the field; it finally felt like a Friday night football game. Both teams were ready for the game. It was a tough back-and-forth, with both teams fighting hard to keep their hands on the ball. But in the end, the Miami Trace Panthers found themselves victorious against the Western Broncos with a final score of 42-21.
The game had an unpredictable start, with Miami Trace fumbling the ball and giving the Broncos a huge head start by giving the Broncos the first touchdown of the game. On the second play from the scrimmage, senior Evan Parsley took the ball and rushed 77 yards, keeping Miami Trace’s momentum going and making the score 14-0 only halfway through the quarter. The end of the quarter was a constant back-and-forth, leaving the score at a standstill.
The action began midway through the second quarter when Brody Barber was passed the ball, and he took his opportunity. Barber rushed down the sideline, fooled the Panthers’ defense, and gave Western Brown their first touchdown of the game. Julian Baker was on a hot streak; rushing down the field with three minutes left in the half, and then he did it again, ending it with a score of 21-7.
Just minutes into the second half, Barber catches the interception, giving the Panthers the ball in their own territory. Minutes later, Barber does it yet again, rushing down the field, leading to his third touchdown of the game.
He keeps the streak alive, scoring his fourth rushing touchdown of the game, making the score 35-7. Barber finally put points on the board for the Broncos in the second half, making the score 35-14 at the end of the quarter. Baron Phipps finds Jacob Rheinscheld the ball, making the final touchdown of the game, extending the Panthers’ lead and putting the score at 42-14. The game will continue in favor of the Panthers as they push to the 42-21 victory.
Next, Miami Trace hopes to continue their winning streak alive leading into their first FAC game at Jackson on Friday, Sept. 25. Western Brown returns to their home field facing Wilmington on Friday, Sept. 25.
