WELLSTON, OHIO (WOUB) – The Wellston Golden Rockets (2-5) hosted the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (7-0) for their second week of conference matchups. The Buckeyes completely dominated the Rockets defensively and offensively throughout the game. The final score of the matchup was 48-0.

The first quarter started off strong with 3 back-to-back interceptions. The ball went from the Buckeyes to the Rockets, right back to the Buckeyes again. After that exciting turn of events, Nelsonville-York then went on to score a TD by WR Weston Wheatley, 7-0. This TD marked QB Cameron Sullivan breaking the Buckeyes’ record for most career passing TDs.

Wellston was unable to stop Nelsonville-York’s momentum as they went on to score two more TDs before the end of the quarter, the first by TE Gavin Levy, and the second by FB Chrisyan Bobo. This brought the score at the end of the quarter to 20-0 with the Buckeyes in the lead.

The second quarter was much like the previous one, with NY dominating and Wellston unable to gain any momentum. The Buckeyes scored three TDs within the quarter. The first TD was by RB Walker Stone, then the next one was by QB Grant Elliot. The third and final TD was scored in the second half by Bobo. This brought the score to 41-0 at the end of the first half.

The third quarter was not as eventful as the previous quarters, as NY scored one TD by RB Keegan Tomsha, which brought the score up to 48-0, where it would remain for the rest of the quarter. The latter half of the third quarter was taken up by the Rockets slowly advancing up the field until the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter started off with Wellston in possession of the ball almost scoring. They got as far as the Buckeye’s 22-yard line but were unable to get past NY’s defense. They got a second chance for a touchdown as they got a turnover on their own 20-yard line but were unable to beat the clock. The final score of the game was 48-0 with a win for the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes aim to continue their hot streak by hosting the Alexander Spartans on Oct. 9. The Golden Rockets wish to bounce back by traveling to Athens to face the Bulldogs on Oct. 9.
