Majestic Galleries To Feature Collaborative, Interactive Exhibits
< < Back to majestic-galleries-feature-collaborative-interactive-exhibitsNelsonville’s Majestic Galleries have announced the grand opening of three new exhibits, taking place Friday, Aug 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The opening, which is part of the town’s monthly “Final Fridays” arts celebration, is taking place in the newly redesigned Gallery Shop.
Stuck on You is a collaborative effort between 15 artists from Knoxville, Tenn., The Majestic Galleries and Ohio University, organized by Athens artist Rachel Clark.
Each artist worked on a partially processed painting, adding their own touches, in a month or less.
“It plays with the uncertainty of finishing work,” said Clark. “The artists are working together with deep, collective, determination…to realize common goals in the best interest of the community.”
In addition to the group exhibit, Clark will be also be exhibiting her new work in her show entitled Looking for Bodhisattva: East Meets Mid-West Coast.
Marietta, Ohio, artist Geoff Schenkel will also be displaying his interesting brand of interactive art, created at his REsolve Studios. The inspiration for his exhibit Victorian Brain Architecture came from an unlikely source.
“In March 2010, a fire destroyed my entire body of work,” he said. “The fire was a catalyst for the creation of Victorian Brain Architecture. It is an effort to synthesize the last 20 years of my experience as an artist.”
Schenkel stressed that this is an interactive show, so don’t be shy.
“This is not your Grandpa’s art show so do not come to this show intent on keeping your hands in your pockets,” he explained. “Touch the art! If you think it might open…open it! If it looks like it turns…try turning it!”
Admission is free for Friday’s opening. The Majestic Galleries’ regular hours are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Visit www.majesticgalleries.com for more information.
