Small Town – Big Bucks
< < Back to small-town-big-bucksOfficials with the village of Barnesville have signed a gas drilling lease agreement worth $5.5 million.
Barnesville's Village Council approved the lease agreement that will allow Antero Resources to use 1,047 acres for drilling.
The agreement will give the town $5,700 per acre in addition to 20 percent in royalties.
Barnesville Mayor Ronald Bischof says the agreement is about more than just the money or the land – it's about bringing in jobs and people that are going to stay in Barnesville.
An Antero Resources spokesperson says the company is still interested in acquiring more acreage and will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Union Local school auditorium.
