Marietta College Part Of Study On Natural Gas Exploration

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce has commissioned an economic impact study on future natural gas exploration in the state.
The business group said Friday it has engaged Cleveland State University, Ohio State University and Marietta College on behalf of the Shale Association to research job creation and economic potential of drilling in the Utica/Point Pleasant and Marcellus shale formations.
The study is being funded by a cross-section of interested industries, including oil and gas, steel, plastic, chemical production, waste management, water supply, manufacturing, heavy equipment and agriculture. Consultants, law firms and some sportsmen's and conservation groups also are contributing money to the effort.
The report is due out at the end of the year. The chamber endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a drilling proponent.
