Family Argument Leads To Fatal Shooting
< < Back toUPDATE 5:10 P.M. The Lawrence County sheriff's office is releasing the identities of the men involved in a deadly domestic violence incident.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless says 48-year-old John McKnight died at the scene in at a home in Ironton after being allegedly shot by 33-year-old Rodney DeLawder.
Deputies say an argument between family members turned violent.
Larry McKnight, 46, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Ironton for injuries from the alleged assault.
John McKnight's body was taken to the Franklin County coroner for an autopsy.
DeLawder is being held at the Lawrence County Jail on charges of murder and discharging a firearm into a habitation.
A man is behind bars after allegedly shooting and killing one family member and beating another Tuesday night.
It happened just before 7:30 p.m. at a home along Route 243 just outside Coal Grove in Lawrence County.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said an argument between the suspect and victims escalated until the suspect got a gun and shot one of the victims in the chest.
Lawless said the suspect then attacked and beat the other victim before leaving the home.
The shooting victim died at the scene and the victim that was beaten was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lawless said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident at his mother's home.
The names of the suspect and victims have not been released yet.
