Volleyball: Ohio Releases 2013 Spring Schedule

The Ohio Bobcats women’s volleyball team, looking to build on the recent success of their last season, announced an exciting slate of spring exhibition events on Sunday. The events, scheduled for March and April, will matchup the Bobcats with proven opponents. Three of their opponents advanced past the opening round of last year’s NCAA tournament and present challenges for the Bobcats.
In their first event, Ohio will face some familiar opponents from the Mid-American Conference, as well as some opponents from the Big Ten Conference in Maumee, Ohio in late March. The Bobcats face a major test in Columbus two weeks later against the Ohio State Buckeyes, who mounted a 23-11 record over their last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. One week later, the team will face another Buckeye State foe in the Dayton Flyers, a team who also advanced past the opening round of last year’s tournament.
The Bobcats will likely face their toughest opponent of their spring schedule in the closing event when they will travel to Twin Cities, Mn. to play two to three teams. The most challenging will be the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of last year’s tournament before losing to long-time powerhouse Penn State. Other possible opponents in this event include North Dakota, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Concordia and Wisconsin.
The Bobcats finished their 2012 season with a 21-10 record after a 25-12 record in the previous year and hope to improve on the current success with the challenging exhibition schedule.
