This year on Sunday, September 13th there will be a public celebration of Krishna Janmashtami – a revered Hindu holy day, right here in Athens, Ohio!

This festival is the Hindu equivalent of Christmas. Just as Christmas marks the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, Janmashtami marks the appearance of Lord Krishna. It is celebrated by Hindus (and others) all over India, and throughout the world. In many regions of India, where it is a public holiday, it is a day off for the general population with schools and most businesses being closed. Those Hindus, that are devotees of Krishna, revere Him as the Supreme Lord who appeared 5,000 years ago, to dispel evil from the earth, and spread the message of love and brotherhood.

As Athens Krishna House kicks off its sixth year of operations, it will host a joyful observance of this special day. There will be a beautiful swing festival with traditional music, readings, singing and dancing followed by a delicious vegetarian feast.

This family-friendly event will be held at United Campus Ministry which is located at 18 N. College Street. The program starts at 4:30 PM. All are welcome. All Programs are FREE.
