Behind the Scene: OU and Athens, Spring 1970
The Southeast Ohio History Center presents Behind the Scene: OU and Athens, Spring 1970 with Frank Norton on Tuesday, October 7th at noon.
Norton, a Vietnam veteran, found himself immersed in the events of the time with different social groups and fronts at the heart of activities and organizing efforts in the student response to the recent killings at Kent State University on May 4 th ,
1970. Come and hear a perspective more than a half century after the fact that wasn’t written about in the newspapers or discussed on the evening news.
The Sky Has Fallen, a black and white photo exhibit of the events in Athens and on the OU campus that led to the closing of the university, the only time in its history, ten days after the Kent State shootings, is currently on display. Revisit this time of
unrest on campuses across the country as America again faces unrest within its own borders.
The Southeast Ohio History Center is located at 24 West State Street in Athens. As the History Center is currently undergoing construction parking is limited so plan to arrive early.
