Don’t Call the Cops: Imagining Alternatives to calling the police

January 15, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

None

This past year there have been multiple stories of white people calling the police on African Americans that they thought were dangerous or threatening to their location,
from Starbucks to Athens County, from a person knocking on a door to someone acting strangely (from a diabetic reaction.) Why does this happen? What can be the consequences for someone once they are jailed for even a low level misdemeanor? Are there alternatives to be considered and practiced?

January 15th, 6-8 PM in the basement of Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Mill Street there will be a discussion of what “triggers us,” how else we can think about events, follow the steps of a decision tree that pertains and think about at least 12 options that can be applied in different situations.
