The Dairy Barn Art Center’s ongoing Ceramic Skill Building Workshop Series continues with this great workshop about surface, pattern and design. Students will learn how to make and use tar-paper stencils and layout tools to create beautiful, diverse surfaces. The versatility of this skill can be used with many applications; carving, mishima, sgraffito and glazing, just to name a few. By layering shapes and breaking up surfaces, simple or complex patterns can be created.
Participants will be provided with pre-made tiles and cups on which to try out their designs. No previous ceramic experience is necessary for this workshop, however, students are encouraged to bring their favorite texture or carving tools if they like.
