The Multicultural Genealogical Center of Southeastern Ohio welcomes Julie Pepper who recently retired from the United States Postal Service after almost 30 years.  In 2013 she was named Ohio’s Postmaster of the Year.  Julie is researching her genealogy and Southeastern Ohio Post Offices, many of which have been closed or recently forced to change their hours after August 23, 2012. 

Julie Nelson Pepper was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised near Maxville, Ohio in Perry County.  She served as Postmaster in Murray City, Chauncey, McConnelsville, Marietta, Athens, Zanesville and Columbus, GA. In 2003, Julie moved to Chesterhill, Ohio. She is married to Matthew Pepper, Postmaster of Beverly, Ohio and they have five adult children. 

Julie served as the President of The League of Postmasters of Ohio, a professional organization, for many years.  She worked to advocate national political decisions on behalf of Postmasters. In 2012, Chesterhill was reclassified as a remotely managed Post Office rather than as a discontinued Post Office as originally proposed. The League of Postmasters was influential with this decision making process.
