Multicultural Genealogical Center Speaker & Light Lunch

Amanda Flowers will share her research into “Unwrapping the colonized mindset in America’s healthcare system: The medical exploitation and experimentation of African Americans”.

Dr. Flowers grew up in Cutler, Ohio  and graduated from Warren High School. She majored in psychology, minored in sociology, and graduated cum laude as a McNair Scholar at Kent State University. She was awarded a graduate fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, where she received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology.  As part of her clinical internship, Dr. Flowers participated in behavioral health research through Case Western Reserve University and was awarded a National Institute of Health postdoctoral fellowship to complete health diversity research at the Ohio State University. As a professional, she has blended her clinical, research, and community outreach initiatives into a vision for advancing racial equity and justice in marginalized communities. Dr. Flowers is invested in combating the social determinants of health for Appalachians of Color through her grassroots collaborations with the Racial Equity Coalition of Athens County and Tablertown People of Color Museum in Kilvert.  As her pastime, she participates in competitive dog sports and engages her canine companions in therapeutic and disaster stress relief programs.
