Ohio University Southern will honor 11 local veterans with handmade Quilts of Valor during Threads of Gratitude, its annual Veterans Day tribute, on Thursday, Nov. 5, at noon in the Riffe Rotunda.

This year’s honorees served in the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force, with enlistment dates ranging from 1962 to today. Together, they represent more than 100 years of service and come from communities across Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

Each quilt is made by hand and personalized for the veteran who receives it. The quilts are created by members of Material Hugs, a quilting guild that includes retired and current OHIO Southern faculty members. The group formed after one of its founders became involved with the Quilts of Valor Foundation, a national volunteer organization that awards handmade quilts to service members and veterans as a lasting expression of gratitude.

The ceremony has become a campus tradition, organized each year by OHIO Southern’s Veterans Services. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to meet the honorees and thank them personally for their service.

The event is free and open to the public.
