Officials at Ohio University's airport are increasing the frequency and randomness of security checks as the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches.

Gordon K. Bush Ohio University Airport Operations Director Kenneth Carley sent out a memo to all airport staff earlier this week urging them to be extra vigilant.

"Recent reports in the news suggest that various terrorist organizations have been considering the use of GA airports and aircraft for terrorist activities," said Carley. "Everyone needs to have a heightened sense of awareness as we approach the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks."

Carley asked employees to make sure fences are secure and no gates are left open.

He also is asking employees are be on the lookout for suspicious activity including aircraft with unusual modifications or activity, pilots appearing to be under the control of others and unfamiliar persons loitering around.

Carley also asked employees to notify him directly if they see any suspicious activity.
