Soccer Falls in Double-OT to #22 Ohio State
< < Back to soccer-falls-double-ot-22-ohio-stateAfter nearly three hours of delays and 108 minutes of game play, Ohio and Ohio State were still scoreless. But for the second straight game, the Bobcats gave up an extremely late goal and lost to the Buckeyes 1-0.
In the 109th minute, Ohio State's Tiffany Cameron controlled a rebound and placed it past Ohio goalkeeper Mattie Liston for the game-winner. Ohio falls to 2-5 with the loss, and the 'Cats have lost three straight games.
Liston single-handedly kept Ohio in the contest after the game's start was delayed for nearly two hours due to lightning delays. The sophomore goalkeeper stopped 12 shots (Ohio State had 30 total shots to Ohio's five), but got little offensive help in the game, which was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and didn't end until nearly 10:30 p.m.
Ohio went the entire second half without a shot, whereas Ohio State recorded 13 shots in the second regulation period, including a 71st-minute shot from Paige Maxwell that nailed the post.
The loss marks the third straight game Ohio has come up short, including two straight contests where the opposition has won the game with a late goal. On Friday, Morehead State's Jillian Birchmeier scored with 2:19 left in the game to beat the Bobcats 2-1.
Ohio gets back to action Friday night at home against Indiana State.
