Police officers in the city of Jackson have a new contract.

Mayor Randy Heath says city council approved the deal last night with a five to one vote.

The police officers union had already approved the new contraact.

The current contract was set to expire Thursday.

The three year deal contains a two percent pay increase in each year of the contract.

Heath says the previous two-year contract did not contain any pay increases.

There are 20 officers in the bargaining unit.

Heath says he's happy both sides have agreed to the deal.

"I feel if we would have had to go to arbitration, it would have been much more costly to the city," said Heath.
