Former Bobcat Tommy Freeman lights it up in England
< < Back toBy some in Athens, Tommy Freeman is called "Tommy Three-man."
Even with a new team, in a new country and on a new continent, Freeman may keep that nickname.
In his first regular-season game as a professional basketball player, Freeman scored 29 points and led his squad to a 93-87 overtime win over the Guildford Heat.
Freeman is playing in the British Basketball League (BBL) for the Worcester Wolves, and helped his team to a win over the Heat, which were the league runner-up in 2010-11.
Freeman dropped 15 of his 29 points in the first half of the game, which saw the two teams notted at 40 each, but once the game advanced to overtime, the Bobcats' all-time leader in three-point field goals was clutch.
He iced the game for Worcester in the extra period, nailing all four of his free throws and assisting on an important basket down the stretch.
Freeman is one of two former Bobcats from the graduating class of 2011 that is playing overseas. Devaughn Washington starts play with Gelisim (Turkey) next Saturday night, the same night Freeman plays his second regular-season game.
