Bellaire Bridge Demolition Delayed

The contractor charged with demolishing a bridge between Bellaire, Ohio, and Benwood, W.Va., says he needs more time.
Lee Chaklos of Delta Demolition says he'll seek an extension to a federal deadline that the bridge be demolished by Dec. 21.
KDC Investments was unable to let the work begin sooner because of a dispute over ownership. But KDC's attorney told Benwood City Council that's since been resolved.
Last month, Chaklos met with city officials to discuss traffic and other issues related to the demolition.
Police Chief Frank Longwell says proof of insurance, a performance bond and other issues still need to be addressed. He says demolition won't begin before early January.
Chaklos says he hopes to provide the city all the remaining information by Christmas.
