Everybody eats and one area organization hopes you'll choose to eat locally.

The Appalachian Center for Economic Networks is hosting a town hall meeting today to promote doing just that.

Leslie Schaller works with ACEnet and says they hope to raise awareness about the amount of local food available in the area.

"Well, I think one of the things that we need to recognize as customers in this economy is that we have this incredible local food economy. We literally have hundreds of different food and farm entrepreneurs all across Southeast Ohio," says Schaller.

Schaller says that a lot of people don't know that where they get their food can truly impact the economy and the community.

"So, when you start to really enumerate all the restaurants, all the retailers, all the farmers across the region, I think we're talking about a considerable amount of job creators," say Schaller.

She says a main goal of ACEnet is to further develop the local food economy starting with this town hall meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Athens Community Center tonight from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Schaller was a guest on WOUB's Newswatch program Friday night.
