On January 29, the team competed in the Bearcat Brawl in Cincinnati, Oh., taking home first place overall after defeating Ohio Northern in the first round and Miami University in the semi-finals. The final match pitted the Bobcats against Cincinnati. The Bearcats started out strong, taking the first set with a score of 25-23. The Bobcats bounced right back with a strong 25-19 win of their own, sending the match into a third set. After a hard-fought battle, the Bobcats took home the win with a final, third-set score of 15-10. President Mara Opitz lead the team in assists while defensively the team was led by Michelle Merker along with Kathryn Dilger and Kelly Nero.
This Saturday, the Bobcats will head to the University of Dayton for one of their biggest tournaments yet. Their squad will be split up into two separate teams for this tournament. Both teams will be taking on three teams from Ohio State, two from Bowling Green, Butler, and home team Dayton and one from Cincinnati, Northern and Eastern Kentucky, Toledo and Indiana State, totaling 16 teams in all.
Opitz is confident in her team’s performance level.
“We feel confident for the UD tournament because of the great energy and execution we had this past weekend. We are practicing hard this week to prepare.”
