Breaking News: School Canceled Following Chardon Shooting, One Dead, Four Injured
< < Back toUpdate 4:21 p.m. Authorities say two of the four students injured in a fatal shooting at an Ohio high school are in critical condition.
Update 12:05 p.m. At a noon news conference, Chardon Police Chief Tim McKenna confirmed one of the victims from this morning's shooting died at the hospital.
The juvenile suspect is in custody, said McKenna, at the gathering outside the Chardon Board of Education building. A teacher had chased the gunman from the school building following the shooting.
Authorities are announcing a 4 p.m. conference to update the situation.
McKenna says a candlelight vigil is planned for 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Update 10:35 a.m.
Authorities say there are now five victims in the Chardon High School shooting.
Police say they believe there four male and one female victims.
The victims were found in three separate places inside the school.
Update 9:55 a.m.
Ohio's governor is asking for prayers for students injured in the Chardon High School shooting this morning.
“Please join me in praying for the students who’ve been injured in this horrible crime," says Kasich. "Praise goes to the Chardon Police and Geauga County Sheriff’s office for quickly getting this situation under control. I’ve pledged Ohio’s full support to them, the school and the local community in this difficult time.”

One gunman is in custody after a shooting at Chardon High School.
Authorities say there are four victims and they are all being treated at the hospital.
Police won't say the extent of the injuries.
A sheriff's office is confirming a shooting at a northeastern Ohio high school.
Civil deputy Erin Knife with the Geauga County Sheriff's Office says the shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. Monday at Chardon High School.
Knife says she doesn't have the number of victims yet, and says a single person suspected in the shooting has left the school but is not in custody.
Schools in the area are locked down.
Chardon is about 30 miles east of Cleveland.
