Post Office Closures Could Pose Election Disruption
< < Back toSecretaries of state across the country say closing mail-processing centers and post offices could disrupt absentee voting this year.
The U.S. Postal Service is moving ahead with cost-cutting plans to close hundreds processing centers and thousands of post offices, including operations in Athens, Chillicothe, Ironton and Parkersburg.
Voters worry that the closures could delay the delivery of ballots or make it difficult to find a place to mail the documents. Elections chiefs say the closures could also pose security concerns by sending some ballots out of state for processing.
The Postal Service has said it will put the closures on a temporary hiatus at the end of August to minimize disruptions ahead of the general election.
