Holocaust Commemoration Planned At Statehouse
< < Back to holocaust-commemoration-planned-statehouseGov. John Kasich and Ohio lawmakers planned to gather Tuesday with members of the Jewish community to participate in an annual Holocaust commemoration.
The commemoration comes just weeks after Kasich signed a bill to create a Holocaust memorial at the Statehouse.
The legislation appoints the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board to work with the Ohio Arts Council to determine the memorial's location and design.
The head of the agency that oversees the Capitol grounds has questioned whether such a memorial would fit in at the Civil War-era Statehouse, and whether it's secure to build over the underground parking lots.
The state is funding preliminary site work, with private money paying for the rest.
