PRACTICE STORY

Free safety boat inspections are being held throughout May and June to kick off the summer boating season and to promote boat safety.

These inspections are being held May 18-20 and May 25-27 to celebrate National Safe Boating Week as well as Memorial Day Weekend. Some free inspections were already given in March and April, but the next ones will occur at public boat launch ramps and during statewide special events.

The free inspections include watercraft officers providing written courtesy examinations that help boat owners make adjustments to their safety equipment. Often these include items like the fire extinguisher, navigational lights, and horns and distress signals. They also check to make sure the correct amount and type of life jackets are onboard.

Upcoming boat safety inspection information can be found at www.ohiodnr.com/watercraft. Information regarding boating safety rules and regulations can be found by calling 866-426-2837.
