Columbus, Ohio is holding a conference of almost 15 hundred people from 75 countries around the world.

Kevin Crist, Ohio University's Director of Air Quality Center, says previous conferences have been held in Halifax, Copenhagen and Beijing.

"We were pretty fortunate the workshop itself is centered aroung a study that we did with Ohio State and so it was the Voinovich School, the engineering college uhh and Ohio State to look at carbon emissions and policies in the state of Ohio," said Crist.

Crist says they are looking at ways to minimize carbon emissions and that Ohio is the fifth leading state in carbon emissions.

"Well, in the state of Ohio we're a major emitter of carbon emissions specifically because we generate a lot of power. The state along the Ohio River Valley has a large segment of the coal fire power plants to produce electricity for this side of the United States," said Crist.

Crist said legislation has passed along the Ohio River Valley requiring a fraction of power industries emissions be done by low carbon emissions.

He also said tracking carbon emissions and promoting other energy sources can increase jobs in Ohio.

The conference will take place from September 30th to October 5th.
