< < Back to volleyball-ryan-theis-earns-100th-victoryOhio Volleyball wrapped up the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a victory over Montana State. The Bobcats won in straight sets: 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.
This was not only a win for Bobcat Volleyball, it was a landmark win for Coach Ryan Theis. Coach Theis recorded his 100th win as a head coach.
“What I’m most pleased about, in winning 100 games, is that it’s 100 wins for Ohio Volleyball,” said Theis. “I love this place. I’m happy to win 100 games for this school and this community.”
The Bobcat Invitational was exactly what Ohio Volleyball needed after a brutal schedule to start the year. The Bobcats were able to chalk up three wins this weekend—all in straight sets—to bring their season record to 4-5.
Ohio started both the first and second sets fast, jumping out to 6-2 and 5-1 leads respectively. Montana State was, however, able to fight back in both sets to make the game interesting. The Bobcats pulled away later in both sets to secure victories of 25-18 in both games.
In the third set, Ohio built a 4-2 lead before Montana State took control with a 9-5 run that put its Bobcats up 11-9. But the Ohio Bobcats rallied back to tie it at 14 then pushed ahead to 19-15 and never looked back, winning the third set 25-22.
Kelly Lamberti led Ohio with 14 kills while also tallying 13 digs. Abby Gilleland led all players with 34 assists in the match.
The Bobcats have yet another challenging slate of games coming up next week. Ohio travels to North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro, North Carolina and North Carolina State.
