The sheriff's race in Washington County now looks much clearer.

Independent candidate Chris Forshey withdrew from the race Tuesday.

He personally delivered his resignation letter to Board of Elections Officials, but gave no reason for his withdrawal in the letter.

His decision will leaves Republican incumbent Sheriff Larry Mincks as the sole candidate.

Mincks has served as the sheriff for the past seven years.

Forshey's withdrawal came 35 days prior to the election, which means a replacement candidate cannot be selected according to election rules, and it is too late for any write-in candidates.

Election authorities say that no vote for Forshey will be counted, despite the fact that ballots have already been printed with his name.
