Williamstown Downs Parkersburg Catholic With Defense

In a cold, rainy game, the Williamstown Yellow Jackets defeated the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders 7-0 at home on Friday night.
The offenses for both teams really struggled to get going, with neither team scoring an offensive touchdown. The only touchdown of the game came in the first quarter on an interception returned for a touchdown by junior linebacker David Hastings.
Williamstown’s defense looked stout on Friday night with their shutout, as well as their ability to contain the Crusaders’ triple option running game. The defensive line played their part well, finishing with three big first half sacks, and the secondary did a great job preventing the big plays.
It seemed as though with the undermanned roster of 19 players for Parkersburg Catholic that they might tire out late in the game, allowing the Jackets to push the score up. However, they were able to keep Williamstown at zero offensive points, and minimal offensive yards, even with the turnovers and turnovers on downs deep inside their own territory.
In the first half tonight, Parkersburg Catholic had a total of 92 yards from scrimmage, but were never able to put enough yards together to get them into scoring territory. The Williamstown offense had an even harder time moving them ball gaining a total of 16 yards in the first half.
In order for the Yellow Jackets to have any chance for the playoffs, they need to continue winning and hope that the teams ahead of them lose, and this is a start to doing so. Next week they’ll play Ritchie County to try and get above .500 for the first time this season since they were 1-0.
