Jim Schaus Signs Extension
< < Back toOhio athletic director Jim Schaus was named to his position on April 7, 2008 and his time in Athens will continue. Ohio University announced today that Schaus has been awarded a contract extension through 2017.
The contract will now expire June 30, 2017, unless another extension is reached at that time. Schaus' salary under the new contract is $247,000 a year.
Since Schaus took the position, Ohio has won seven tournament championships and nine conference titles.
The 2011-12 season may have been one of the best in the school's history under Schaus's leadership. Ohio football claimed the MAC-East title and its first ever bowl victory in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Ohio volleyball team captured the MAC-East title as well and the field hockey team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the MAC Tournament.
The success did not end with the close of the fall season. Ohio basketball won it's second league title in three years and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to the University of North Carolina.
Schaus was also busy last season with the hiring of two new coaches. Jim Christian became the new men's basketball coach on April 4, 2012 after former head coach John Groce was hired at Illinois. Former Creighton associate head coach Rob Smith took over Joe Carbone's reign of the Ohio baseball team on June 11,2012.
During his time at Ohio, Schaus has been a huge factor in the fundraising efforts for the University's $12.5 million Multi-Purpose Center. The fundraising effort concluded this fall and once built, the facility will provide each of Ohio's 16 varsity programs to practice indoors when need be.
Schaus also led the way for the fundraising of a new men's basketball locker room and athletic training suite.
