W.Va. Hunter Who Fell To Death Identified
< < Back toA West Virginia hunter who suffered a fatal fall from a tree stand has been identified as a 53-year-old federal forester.
Mark Allen Metz of Milton was bow hunting in Jackson County on Saturday when he fell to his death.
Hoy Murphy of the Division of Natural Resources says Metz slipped and fell 18 feet from his tree stand.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture lists Metz a forester with the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Cross Lanes.
Murphy said fatal falls from tree stands outnumber accidental shooting deaths during the hunting seasons. The DNR recommends hunters wear a harness while in trees.
