Trimble Hungry For Home Playoff Win
< < Back to
With a dominant Senior Night victory over the Federal Hocking Lancers this past Friday night, the Trimble Tomcats secured the No. 3 seed in Division VI OHSAA Playoffs. They finished the season 9-1 with their only loss coming to the reigning TVC Hocking Champion Wahama White Falcons. They look forward to their home playoff matchup with the No. 6 seed Colonel Crawford Eagles in Glouster this Friday night.
This is the third year in a row that Trimble has secured a playoff spot. Coach Phil Faires and his Tomcats are excited about the opportunity to play at home for their first playoff matchup.
“Our kids are excited to play at home, but are very relaxed and ready for the tough game ahead,” Coach Faires said.
The matchup with the Eagles will be a tough one. This is a 8-2 team from the North Central Conference, who has never made the playoffs in school history before this year.
Their only two losses on the year were to Galian and Wynford, both of whom made the playoffs.
The Eagles bring a high-powered offense to the table on Friday. This season the Eagles averaged 35 points per game behind junior quarterback Nate Klingenberger who has thrown for over 2,000 yards.
Their defense has also been solid, allowing just 19.4 points per game. One key playmaker on defense for Colonel Crawford is defensive back Alex Hetzel who has eight interceptions on the year.
The matchup with the Tomcats is intriguing. All eyes will be on the play of the two quarterbacks. For Trimble Konner Standley must have a big game. He has proven to put up numbers thus far with more than 1,000 yards passing and 886 yards rushing. For the visiting Eagles, Klingenberger will have to be able to connect with his receivers as he has all year.
Ultimately defense will be key for both teams. These offenses have proven to put the points on the board. Trimble has played solid defense all year including six games in which they had shut outs, while Colonel’s Base 4-3 defense looks to slow Standley down.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Glouster Memorial Stadium.
