Efforts Continue To Help W.Va. Storm Victims
< < Back toEfforts are continuing across West Virginia to provide food and shelter to storm victims, clean up debris and clear fallen trees from roads.
The West Virginia National Guard says about 600 members remain on active duty to help with storm relief, including cleanup, road clearing and helping residents. The Guard also is deploying specialized tents with generators to several polling places that don't have power.
The American Red Cross and the Southern Baptist Convention are providing hot meals from kitchen sites in Mt. Nebo and Buckhannon. They also are sending emergency response vehicles with food and water to communities in Barbour, Boone, Braxton, Logan, Nicholas, Randolph, Tucker, Upshur and Webster counties.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's office says more than 30 shelters remain open in 18 counties affected by Superstorm Sandy.
