Brick Monkey Theater Ensemble Performs Holiday Show
< < Back toA local theater company will present a new twist on an old Christmas classic next month.
The Brick Monkey Theater Ensemble (BMTE) will perform the play An Appalachian Christmas Carol this December in Nelsonville.
The play is an adaptation from the original Charles Dicken's story.
Kate Scholl, the play's director, said viewers in the area can relate to the play because it is based in Ohio.
"Well what Merri Biechler has done and what we have been cultivating here is we have localized this play to the area," said Scholl. "We have set the play at the turn of the century, focusing on the coal mining and the labor union industry and we're using local traditional music of that time."
Scholl said not all the actors are from Brick Monkey, some are from Athens, Nelsonville, Ohio University, and two students from West Elementary.
The play will feature live performances from Rattletrap Stringband and songs from the actors.
The show runs December 13-16 at Stuart's Opera House.
