Congressman Bill Johnson of Marietta is introducing a bill that he says will help veterans find jobs.

The proposed legislation would give former military personnel more options when selecting technical training programs.

“Many of the jobs around oil and natural gas and the things that are available to them in the 6th District of Ohio, the training requirements that are being offered by the various schools do not, the number of hours, do not meet that threshold to qualify for veteran’s benefits,” said Johnson.

Johnson,  a  Republican, is trying to alter an existing training program so the veterans could take other courses and still qualify for educational benefits.

He says the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program is helping to lower the unemployment rate among veterans and his bill will make it better.
