An auditor found a former Marietta City School District assistant treasurer allegedly stole more than $145,000 over a period of five-and-a-half years.

According to Washington County Sheriff detectives, Barbara Mincks admitted to stealing from the district when questioned by investigators earlier this year.

Treasurer Matt Reed says Mincks started stealing in June 2007.

"She would just go through outstanding checks and look for ones that were not cashed and go into the system and reissue the checks," said Reed.

Reed says the checks would show up as a vendor, but the physical check was in her name.

Mincks could be indicted on charges including theft in office and tampering with records.
