Health Department Wants To Follow State Agency’s Healthy Lead
< < Back to health-department-wants-follow-state-agencys-healthy-leadA Parkersburg-area health department is looking at emulating a West Virginia state agency's move to provide healthier food choices at meetings and events.
The West Virginia Bureau for Public Health is requiring half the food offered at its meetings and events to be healthy.
Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department executive director Dick Wittberg asked Dr. Teresa Frazer, deputy state health officer, for a copy of the state agency's new requirements after he saw a news report about them.
Wittberg says that he would like to see his department implement similar requirements.
He says healthy food options are offered at some Mid-Ohio Valley Board of Health meetings. But there are also times when health officials order pizza.
