A national youth fitness campaign is coming to West Virginia's public elementary and middle schools.

The National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils will provide $100,000 fitness centers to three schools that promote student physical activity and wellness with innovative methods. These schools will be named National Champion Schools.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomlin and the foundation's chairman, personal fitness personality Jake Steinfeld, announced the campaign Tuesday.

Tomblin says the campaign is an opportunity to promote fitness in schools and to make a positive impact on students' future health and wellness.

Steinfeld says academics and fitness go hand and in hand.
