Major cuts are coming for many county agencies in Mason County West Virginia.
The county commission approved a budget Thursday that cuts 50 percent of funding from all fire stations, EMS, libraries, parks, the health department and more.
County Commissioner Rick Handley says the cuts are being made because of American Electric Power shutting down its Phillip Sporn power plant in Mason County.
The budget will take effect starting in July.
Handley says no county employees will receive raises either under the new budget.
The county commission says any new money that comes in will be given to fire crews and EMS first.
