Bobcats, Buckeyes Set for 2013 Matchup
< < Back toUpdate, Aug. 28, 2:25 p.m.: The Ohio State men's basketball team released its 2013-14 schedule Wednesday. Ohio will officially be playing the Buckeyes on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. in the Schottenstein Center.
Update, July 1, 9:16 a.m.: An official release from Ohio State University Monday announced the game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Ohio Bobcats will take place on Nov. 12.
The exact time of the game has yet to be released.
Ohio Men's Basketball will play Ohio State this fall for the first time in 19 seasons.
Ohio coach Jim Christian spoke about scheduling the game at a number of Bobcat Caravan stops for boosters this offseason, and Ohio State coach Thad Mata confirmed the matchup to Bob Baptist of the Columbus Dispatch Monday evening.
Jason Arkley of the Athens Messenger reported Monday afternoon that the matchup was a go while revealing several other opponents on Ohio's non-conference schedule.
Ohio and Ohio State will meet at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus early in the 2013-14 season. The date and time of the game have not been released yet.
Last season, Ohio finished 24-10, won a school record 14 MAC games and played in the post season National Invitational Tournament. That Bobcat team recently graduated six seniors and four of its top five scorers.
Ohio State finished the 2012-13 season 29-8 and advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes return the majority of their team from a season ago but lose the Big Ten's leading scorer, Deshaun Thomas, who has declared for the 2013 NBA Draft.
Ohio State owns the all-time series with a record of 15-4 in 19 games against Ohio.
The Bobcats and Buckeyes last played in 1994 in the Preseason NIT. That season, the Gary Trent-led Bobcats defeated Ohio State 74-67 on their way to winning the tournament and finishing the season 20-10.
Arkley also reported Monday that Ohio is likely to play in a preseason tournament with a round robin format this season.
Other notable opponents likely to be on Ohio's 2013-14 non-conference schedule include Northern Iowa (21-15 last season), UMass (21-12), Evansville (21-15), Valparaiso (26-8), Cal-Poly (18-14), UNC-Asheville (16-16) and Richmond (19-15).
