Echoes From the History Center: ‘The Last Canal Boat’

In this episode of Echoes from the History Center, host Tom O’Grady talks with Jeff and Kathy Crisler about the writing and development of The Last Canal Boat, an original musical inspired by the history of Ohio’s Hocking Canal. The musical follows Abigail Rose Fletcher, a young girl who dreams of becoming a canal boat captain, while weaving real people, events and stories from Southeast Ohio’s canal era into its narrative.
The Crislers discuss the extensive historical research behind the production, the importance of preserving stories connected to the region’s disappearing canal remnants and the local cast and musicians bringing the musical to the stage.
The Last Canal Boat will be performed at the Logan Theater, 88 E. Main St. in Logan, on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m., with a final performance Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m.
