Severe Thunderstorms Roll Through The Region

UPDATE 11:12 p.m. Portions of Southeast Ohio are under a flash flood watch until 2 p.m. Sunday after severe thunderstorms brought heavy rains to an already rain-soaked region.

Several roads in Athens County are closed because of flooding.

According to county officials County Road 31 (Oakdale Road) in Trimble Township and County Road 44 (Bucks Lake Road) in Lee and Carthage Townships are closed.

People are advised to avoid the area.


UPDATE 3:45 p.m. Hundreds of people without power after severe thunderstorms rolled through the area Saturday afternoon.

According to AEP Ohio's outage map 566 customers are without power in Athens County.  Other counties with outages include:

Franklin: 1,674

Hocking:184

Washington:144

Morgan: 103

Portions of the region are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of the region until  9 p.m. Saturday.

Portions of the regions are also under a flash flood watch until 2 p.m. Those counties are Athens, Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton and Washington.
