Missing Girl Found Safe

UPDATE 4:35 p.m. The Mayor of Jackson said a missing 6-year-old girl was found safe Friday afternoon.

Authorities had been actively searching for a young girl who disappeared early Friday, and authorities issued a statewide alert for her.

According to WBNS the mayor said that Macey Stewart was found in Liberty Township, about 6 or 7 miles from her home. She approached a home, and a woman who recognized her picture called authorities.

Police in Jackson say a teenager was caring for Macey Stewart when she disappeared 1:30 a.m. from her North Chestnut Street home.

The teen told police a man stopped at the house and asked to borrow a phone, and the teen went inside to grab a cellphone. The teen said when he returned to the porch, the girl and the man were gone.

The girl's father and brother said they had left the home to change a tire.

Police, fire officials and Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators had searched for Stewart by land and air.


UPDATE: 2:03 p.m. Jackson City Police believe 6-year-old Macey Stewart could be in danger.

Stewart went missing Friday morning, and police say witnesses are giving conflicting statements about who was the last one to see her.

Intially it was reported Stewart was last seen on her front porch with her father at N. Chestnut Street around 1:30 a.m. 

However, police are now saying a young male was watching Stewart before she went missing.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has arrived to assist in the investigation.

Search and K-9 units are on the scene.

Anyone with information in regards to Stewart's whereabouts should call the Jackson City Police Department.


UPDATE: 9:56 a.m. Family members have reported a man came to their home on N. Chestnut Street about 1:30 Friday morning and asked to use the phone.

Macey Stewart, 6, was on the front porch with her father at the time. Her father went into the house to get a phone, leaving the front door open and the girl on the porch. When he returned, Macey and the man who had asked to use the phone were both gone.

The man had apparently been at the house earlier in the evening to buy electronics from Stewart’s father.

At least 30 people are searching for Stewart, including K-9 units and two helicopters.


Police are investigating the disappearance of a 6-year-old girl last seen about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Macey Stewart was last seen at her home in the 200 block of North Chestnut Street in Jackson, Ohio. Investigators say they aren't sure if she was abducted or a runaway. Police say that there are "very odd circumstances" surrounding the girl's disappearance.

Members of several emergency and law enforcement agencies are searching for her, including police K9 units, while police are interviewing friends and family for more information.
